Angela Bryant has been representing the 4th district in the North Carolina State Senate since her appointment in 2013. Prior to serving as State Senator, Senator Bryant served on the City Council for Rocky Mount, for Ward 4 for three years before being appointed to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2007. She is a lawyer and community and political leader, and works as a diversity and organizational consultant. Senator Bryant is the co-founder of VISIONS INC., a nonprofit educational organization that helps individuals, businesses and communities fully utilize cultural and group differences for successful outcomes. She is also a founding member of the Wright’s Center, Rocky Mount’s first adult day health center, which she nurtured and directed as a volunteer for 10 years. Senator Bryant lives in the Little Raleigh Community of Rocky Mount where she was born and raised.
Senator Bryant is committed to working to improve the lives of North Carolina families. In 2013, she was a recipient of the Champion of NC Working Families Award for sponsoring the North Carolina Caregiver Relief Act and Healthy Workplaces Act.The North Carolina Caregiver Relief Act would assist working caregivers by extending protections of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to eligible working siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, stepparents, or parents-in-law. There are currently 1.2 million caregivers in North Carolina providing care to older and disabled adult, and the state also ranks 6th in the nation in the number of children under age 18 living in households where a grandparent provides that child’s primary care.
