Carer Payment

Year Introduced:  1997–introduced to replace the Carer Pension (introduced in 1983)

Type of legislation:  Social insurance

Description of program: Carer Payment is primarily based on an assessment of the functional disability of the person(s) the carer is supporting and is also means tested.  The amount is equivalent to the Aged Pension providing $210.20 per week (approximately US $116 per week).
