Caregiver Resources

Do you awaken at night to help your husband to the bathroom? Do you arrange your schedule to fit your mother’s doctors’ appointments? You are not alone. According to the 2003 National Alliance for Caregiving/AARP National Caregiver Survey, at least 44.4 million adults provide the care that is so critical in helping friends and loved ones with debilitating illnesses remain in their homes and other community settings. It is estimated that 80 percent of all care received by older Americans is provided by family members – spouses, children, grandchildren and
other relatives – people just like you.

Roughly 66 million unpaid caregivers form the backbone of the US chronic and long-term care system. These hard working family members provide care to injured veterans, aging adults, children with special needs, and individuals with chronic medical needs. Currently, 72% of caregivers take care of someone 50 or older. As the baby boom generation ages, the number of people who need care will continue to swell.

The National Alliance for Caregiving offers a variety of materials to support family caregivers, ranging from booklets and tip sheets to webcasts and conference materials. All of these can be found in this resources section.
