SUMMARY:Building Better Support for Family Caregivers in Transplant Care
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to support the people who make transplantation possible? Family caregivers are often the constant throughout the transplant journey\, helping recipients prepare for transplantation\, navigate recovery\, and manage long-term care. Their contributions are critical\, yet the resources and support available to them vary widely\, creating important opportunities for learning\, innovation\, and collaboration across the transplant community. \nBuilding on the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC’s) transplant caregiving research\, this interactive forum will explore how transplant programs\, researchers\, and advocates are supporting caregivers. Participants will gain insight into the current landscape of caregiver support and learn from innovative approaches designed to address caregivers’ needs throughout the transplant continuum. \nThe forum will create space for meaningful dialogue about challenges\, gaps\, and promising practices in transplant caregiving. Through live polling\, facilitated discussion\, and peer exchange\, participants will share experiences and identify opportunities to strengthen caregiver support and inform future policy and advocacy efforts. As recognition of caregivers’ contributions grows\, so does the need for practical strategies that translate evidence into sustainable programs and practice. \nJoin Allison Applebaum\, PhD\, FAPOS\, Director of the Steven S. Elbaum Family Center for Caregiving\, and J. Nicholas Odom\, PhD\, RN\, University of Alabama at Birmingham\, for a discussion of the INcreasing Caregiver Support Implementation through Training and Education (INCITE) Training Program\, a national initiative designed to help cancer center teams strengthen their capacity to implement evidence-informed caregiver support practices. Through training\, technical assistance\, and organizational change strategies\, INCITE aims to advance the integration of family caregiver support into routine cancer care. \nDuring this webinar\, speakers will share early findings from the INCITE Training Program and discuss insights from participating cancer centers. DESCRIPTION:The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) and Transplant Journey are partnering to host an interactive listening session on cancer-related transplant caregiving. This session will explore the experience\, challenges\, and needs of family caregivers supporting individuals undergoing or who have received a transplant related to their cancer treatment. The purpose of the session is to hear directly from caregivers\, and insights gathered will help shape Cancer Caregiving Collaborative efforts to strengthen the integration of caregivers into health care delivery\, particularly in high-intensity treatment contexts where caregiver involvement is critical to outcomes. \nThese listening sessions are designed as dedicated spaces for family caregivers of someone with who has received a cancer-related transplant (current or past).
