Maureen E. Lyon, PhD, FABPP

Maureen Lyon is Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences; and a Clinical Health Psychologist at the Center for Translational Research at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Lyon’s research focuses on advance care planning interventions for persons living with serious illness, including cancer and HIV. Completed research includes a National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR)/NIH funded 5-year clinical trial of FAmily CEntered pediatric advance care planning for teens with cancer; an NIH administrative supplement to examine the intersectionality of gender and poverty in pACP outcomes; and an adaptation for Spanish speaking teens with cancer. Ongoing is a NINR/NIH funded pilot trial of FACE-Rare for family caregivers of children with rare diseases. Future research will examine implementation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Lyon has consistently examined the influence of religion and spirituality on study outcomes.
