Washington, DC— The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) will host policy makers, legislators, caregivers and advocates in Washington, DC, on November 20 for the second annual Caregiver Nation Summit, a critical policy forum aimed at raising awareness and generating support for the family caregivers who provide $600 billion in unpaid labor annually. Advocates and caregivers will meet with members of Congress on Capitol Hill on November 21 to encourage support for legislation and policy change.

The sessions include a post-election analysis of the state of caregiving and the policies that will be most impactful for caregivers in America in 2025. With a new administration and new leadership in the Senate, it is crucial to solidify support for traditionally bipartisan policies such as tax credits for caregivers, Medicaid eligibility, paid family and medical leave and active legislation like the Older Americans Act, which is up for reauthorization. Caregiving advocates know there is a lot at stake.

“The Caregiver Nation Summit comes at a pivotal moment for this country to reflect on the indispensable role family caregivers play in sustaining our healthcare system, strengthening our economy, and supporting our families,” said Jason Resendez, NAC President and CEO. “They shoulder immense responsibilities, providing complex, high-intensity care that too often goes unrecognized and unsupported. It’s time our policies match their tremendous value to our society.”

This year’s program at the Marriott Capitol Hill, coinciding with National Family Caregivers Month, will cover rising eldercare costs, workforce challenges, and essential policy initiatives like Medicare-reimbursed caregiver training, expanded Medicaid benefits and caregiver tax credits. The summit will be followed by a day on Capitol Hill highlighting the powerful, interconnected stories of caregivers across aging, disability, and serious illness.

The Caregiver Nation Summit agenda, found here, will include:

  • Remarks from Edward J. Markey (D-MA) on federal caregiving initiatives.
  • A panel moderated by Judy Woodruff, Senior Correspondent of PBS NewsHour.
  • A fireside chat with CMS Deputy Administrator Dr. Meena Seshamani on how Medicare is evolving to support family caregivers.
  • A spotlight on the Bradley Cooper ‘Care Out Loud’ PBS documentary, emphasizing the vital contributions of family caregivers.
  • Closing remarks from New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
