2025: What Progress Looks Like
I won’t sugarcoat it: 2025 was tough. We launched our new strategic plan into one of the most difficult policy environments for family caregivers in recent memory. There were moments when the headwinds felt relentless.
And yet—we moved forward.
This year, we pushed back against deep Medicaid cuts—winning key protections for family caregivers—and advanced Medicare’s permanent recognition of caregivers as essential partners in care. We released the most comprehensive caregiver data in a generation, showing that nearly 50% more Americans are providing family care than in 2015. That’s not a statistic that stays buried in a report. It’s a story that’s finally breaking through—shifting caregiving from the margins to the center of national conversation.
That momentum carried into the halls of Congress. This year, I had the honor of testifying before the Senate Aging Committee about the need to increase investments in family caregivers—another sign that caregivers are finally being heard where it matters most.
But the moment that sticks with me most from this year happened at our Caregiver Nation Summit.
Senator Andy Kim took the stage and spoke about caring for his father while serving in the Senate—the exhaustion, the impossible choices, the weight of the “sandwich generation.” Then he made a pledge: to champion family caregivers and build a care movement while in the Senate. “This experience,” he said, “has profoundly impacted my understanding of just what so many people are going through.”
That’s the power of lived experience. That’s what happens when caregivers have a seat at the table.
This post only scratches the surface. Read our full 2025 Impact Report to see everything we accomplished together this year.
None of this work happens alone. To our partners, members, and funders—thank you. Your commitment made every one of these wins possible. Above all, thank you to every family caregiver who has stood with us this year. You’re the heart of this movement. Together, we’re working toward something simple but radical: a country that makes room for care.
Yes, 2025 was tough. But when I look at what we accomplished together—against the odds—I’m not tired. I’m ready.
Here’s to the work ahead.
