The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) is proud to announce that it has mobilized 25 national organizations through its Cancer Caregiving Collaborative and Act On RAISE Campaign in support of a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) proposed rule, “Prohibition on Creditors and Consumer Reporting Agencies Concerning Medical Information.”
Our comments emphasize how this rule can ease the financial strain on family caregivers as they manage the challenges of cancer care, serious illness, disability, and aging care. The protections for individuals with medical debt in this Proposed Rule closely align with the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers, a comprehensive plan developed under the RAISE Family Caregivers Act of 2018.
“Family caregivers often experience significant financial strain while providing essential care for their loved ones,” said Jason Resendez, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Caregiving. “We applaud CFPB and the Biden-Harris administration for taking steps to improve the financial health of America’s 53 million family caregivers.”
We urge the CFPB to recognize the essential role family caregivers play and continue implementing measures to safeguard their financial health. This rule, if enacted, would represent an important step forward in supporting those providing invaluable care to their loved ones.
