The proposed FY 2026 budget would fundamentally weaken support systems for family caregivers nationwide. Significant reductions in health and human services funding, elimination of community resources, and cuts to housing assistance would create greater hardships for millions of Americans who provide vital care for children, aging relatives, and people with disabilities or serious illnesses.  Cutting these programs will result in more family caregivers quitting their jobs to stay home to care full-time for their loved ones.  When caregivers must quit their jobs, it reduces family incomes and reduces federal tax dollars collected. For older adults who rely on supportive services to stay in their own homes, they may have to choose nursing homes for care — which is much more costly to the government than supporting people at home.

We urge Congress to stand up for family caregivers and their loved ones. Reject these devastating cuts and instead pass a budget that makes common sense investments in family caregivers, their families and their communities.
