NAC Statement on the Reintroduction of The Older Americans Act

The National Alliance for Caregiving applauds the bipartisan reintroduction of the Older Americans Act Reauthorization Act by Senate HELP Committee Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Ranking Member Bernie Sanders (D-VT), and their colleagues from both parties. This collaborative leadership demonstrates the shared commitment needed to support our nation’s family caregivers and older adults.

For nearly six decades, the Older Americans Act (OAA) has served as a lifeline for family caregivers, providing essential resources and services that enable them to provide care while preserving their own health and well-being. Today, the OAA is more vital than ever—serving as a cornerstone for implementing our nation’s first-ever National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers and ensuring that every state and community maintains a fundamental safety net for caregiving families.

With millions of Americans depending on OAA-funded programs, swift passage of this reauthorization is not just important—it’s essential. We urge Congress to act quickly to secure this critical support system for our nation’s older adults and family caregivers.
